is it too soon to do this yet? 'cause i know that it's delicate; (for

[ Somehow, they manage to get called out to two difference scenes in the last few hours of his shift. It's a double edged sword -- less time to text Rey, but it does make the rest of the afternoon go a lot faster. Nothing like a twelve car pile-up and a seven-story structure fire to provide some thorough distractions. Both scenes come out casualty-free, and at the end of it all, Buck sends Rey a selfie of himself grinning in full gear cradling a kitten he rescued, with the promise to be over as soon as he gets showered and cleaned up.
It's somewhere between the shower and meticulously fixing his hair in the mirror that Eddie clocks him for having a date and starts in on the teasing. The grin that Buck most definitely can't keep off his face probably doesn't help.
What can he say? He's smitten.
He makes one stop between the fire station and Rey's place, and it's to pick up a bouquet of flowers and a tiramisu cake for dessert. This takes a little longer than he intended, as it involves a very in depth conversation with the florist about which flowers will best convey 'I really want you to be my girlfriend', and it's here that he learns that floriography is a thing and flowers have a language. It ends up being an arrangement of sunflowers, white lilies, and red roses. Loyalty, commitment, and love respectively, if he kept track of what the florist said properly.
By the time he's knocking on her door, the nerves have kicked up a bit. They're not entirely unwelcome. It's a good sign that this is worth going for. ]

Things were going really well with him. He was kind, compassionate, funny and charming. He understood how hectic work could be at times. In her line of work it was either feast or famine. Either a project was wrapping up or kicking off, which made it hard to date at times. Sure, working in IT allowed Rey to earn a good living, but it was mentally taxing at times. It left very little time to date, and even then it felt like she didn’t click with anyone.
There was the temptation to contact her ex, but thankfully she didn’t. No, she managed to move ahead and met Buck…and she was happy. Not just going through the motions, but genuinely happy.
And honestly? Getting any texts from Buck makes me smile. It’s the highlight of her day. Even more so whenever he takes a photo with a cute cat. The text he sent gets a heart reaction to it. Rey had to download the photo to look at later.
Now, she just had to wait for him to come over. They were going to have a date night and sleepover for the next few nights. She wasn’t kidding when she told him that she wanted to spoil him. While Rey had a hard time spending money on herself beyond that of necessities, she was fine spoiling those close to her.
She was still tempted to buy tickets to the zoo to surprise Buck with, but held off. Instead she opted to buy groceries and clean up her place a bit more before he arrived.
The knock at her door makes her stomach flip, butterflies dancing around in excitement. She went to her door, opening it to see Buck was right there. There was a grin on her face, resisting the urge to pull him into a hug. ]
Hey! [ A quick side step to let him into her one bedroom apartment. It was pretty plain—not too many photos on the wall, a sofa and television in the living room. A kitchen that had a nice coffee maker and mixer. Coffee was life and she would be damned if she didn’t have at least three cups a day. ]
Please come in. How was work? [Rey was so focused on Buck, she completely over looked he had other items with him. ]

As easy as it was to be Buck 1.0, there's no chance of him going back to that. He likes dating. Committing. Working towards a stable future with another person. And as of late, he's found himself wanting to build that future with Rey.
It's hard not to. She's wicked smart and impossibly sweet and absolutely gorgeous. He loves spending time with her, learning more about her. The timing feels right, but he's definitely been wrong about timing before.
Hopefully not this time.
Rey opens the door and seeing her-- it settles his nerves just a little bit. Like part of him just needed to know that this lovely little weekend was actually happening. ]
Hey. [ He gives a soft, almost shy grin as he steps past her into the cozy apartment. ] Work was busy, always busy. Wasn't sure I was gonna get off on time for a minute there. Here, uh-- I brought desert. And flowers.
[ He holds out both the bouquet and the tiramisu. ]
I guess maybe I should've found out if you're a flower person first. Oh, hey-- did you know flowers have a language?
[ ADD thy name is Buck. ]
no subject
Flowers. He brought her flowers. The last person to give her flowers was Finn when she graduated Uni years ago. Right, she needed to answer him. ]
Yeah, I recall it being talked about during English class as it helped carry themes and such. [ Slow down, Rey. No need to say everything on her mind.
She closed the gap between them, first taking the tiramisu to set on the kitchen counter and then gingerly took the bouquet from him. Her eyes looked over the flowers he selected, wracking her brain for the meaning behind the selections. She could feel tears pricking at the corners of her eyes. ]
These are beautiful, Evan. Thank you. [Rey whispered? Looking up from the flowers to him. She switched to his given name whenever they were on a serious or heartfelt topic. It felt natural to call him either name.
She bridged the gap between them, holding the flowers in one hand, and wrapping her arm around his waist for a hug. ]
I really like them, thank you again. [Rey murmured, pressing her face into his shoulder to try and hide any tears that fell. She didn’t like crying, but they were happy tears. She would have to figure out a way to preserve some of the flowers. A way to remember their lovely weekend.
Rey pressed a kiss to Buck’s cheek and lingered at his side.]
I’m glad you were able to leave on time. If you were late, it would’ve been fine—as long as you were okay. [That was one of the fears she sort of lived with in dating Buck—if in running towards danger, if he would come out in the other side unscathed.
Slowly, she was getting used to it. Hopefully nothing bad would happen to him or the 118. ]

It takes a second for him to determine whether or not the flowers were the right call. He can see the brightness in her eyes, that glassiness that comes with tears not-yet shed. Maybe he's touched a nerve, invoked some bad memories--
But no. That doesn't seem to be the case, because in the next moment she's folding herself into his side, an arm looped around his waist. Buck smiles, wrapping both arms around her and pressing a long kiss to the top of her head. A soft moment of vulnerability between them, and all it does is solidify things for him. The way she fits against him feels perfect, like puzzle pieces sliding into place. ]
I'm glad you like them. They're not near as beautiful as you are, though.
[ He can't help the way his smile slides into a soft grin when she kisses his cheek, and it's a good thing she lingers, because he didn't plan on removing his arms from around her waist anytime soon.
Sure, they have a whole dinner to make, but they'll get to that. Eventually. ]
Absolutely nothing could've kept me from being here tonight. [ One hand lifts, fingers finding her chin to guide her lips to his in a soft, sweet kiss. ] I missed you.

Kindness was a rarity in this word. Something she had been rarely shown as a child. With Buck, it felt like she could come to gradually believe those words.
There were things about her past she had yet to share with him. Hopefully he wouldn’t see her as broken or damaged. That maybe, she was fine as she was—cracks, flaws and all.
The kiss to her head was greatly appreciated. She soaked in his warmth and found there was no better place to be than in his arms.
Sooner or later, they would have to make dinner, but she wasn’t going to make the first move and pull away.
Rey leaned into his touch, tilting her head up for their lips to meet for a soft and sweet kiss. One that made her toes curl and held the potential to turn deeper. It was so tempting to part her lips and truly show how much she’s missed him, but she didn’t want to rush things…At least, not yet.
With a soft hum, Rey slowly pulled back. ] I’ve missed you too.
[More than she thought possible. Waking up to an empty bed didn’t have the appeal it once had. Sure, she had more space to starfish but it wasn’t the same. Was it possible to feel this strongly for someone after a few months? Things with her ex didn’t feel like this.
Then again Ben wasn’t straight forward with his feelings and they got into more spats than she could count. It wasn’t healthy, and while it sucked to break up, it lead her to eventually find Buck. ]
We should, um…make dinner. [ Rey murmured, trying and failing to pull away. ] And I should put these flowers in a vase.
[Even though she murmured what her next task should be, she found herself leaning into to give Buck another kiss.
Fuck, how was it possible to be this smitten with someone? ]

He's spent so long watching everyone in his life meet their soul mates. Athena and Bobby, Maddie and Chimney, Hen and Karen. Watching from the outside as his friends build these beautiful futures together. The unconditional love, the unwavering support.
The only love he's known has been conditional, rife with ultimatums and contingencies. A revolving door of people who deem him not worth sticking around for. Even Eddie. Even Maddie.
He never would've thought that the right place to look was his first aid certification class. And he wasn't looking, really. As a matter of fact, he was starting to consider how much it sucked to wear his heart on his sleeve the way he does. After he starts to fall, he struggles to hold back. Hand on the throttle, full speed ahead. Which always turns into too much, too soon. He's so tired of being too much.
Rey doesn't make him feel that way. She doesn't roll her eyes when he suggests a new nature documentary. She suggests things like making ball pits inside his loft. She's probably the smartest person he's ever met, but not once has she ever made him feel stupid. Only cherished. Spoiled. Cared for. This feels different than all the others. Like the beginnings of something that can actually be something.
It's all he can think about when she's close to him like this. Neither of them are willing to commit to pulling away. They should make dinner, the flowers should have a vase. The hand near her waist slides up beneath the hem of her shirt, fingers seeking the soft skin at the small of her back. ]
I mean, they'll probably be fine for like-- an hour. Right?
[ Maybe a little more than an hour, he's really missed her. As he leans down to kiss her again, a little more languidly than before, the hand from her chin reaches blindly for the flowers to set them aside on the counter. ]

[The flowers should be fine without water for an hour, and the tiramisu should be okay. Rey kept the thermostat at a lower temperature to help deal with the heat of California. Plus it gave her a reason to wear one of her favorite hoodies around her place.
Buck’s touch sends a pleasant shiver down her spine. For a moment she wished she was wearing something nicer than a basic green t-shirt and jeans. She wanted to be comfortable when they cooked dinner-which made her think back to one of his texts.
He was more of a dessert first, kind of guy.
Her eyes softly flutter shut, returning the kiss in a slow fashion. Buck’s guidance allows Rey to set the flowers down on the counter, allowing her to fully wrap her arms around his waist. Rey was drowning in Buck’s kiss, parting her lips to have a taste of him.
Things between them were moving pretty quickly, having only dated each other for a few months. Buck had this magical ability to get Rey to lower her walls, gently nudging her to try other things with the unspoken promise he’d be there to help her. He had the ability to connect with people, charm them and find ways to relate. He wasn’t just a pretty face with a hot body.
No, he was as sweet as Valentine’s candy, and more heartfelt than those Hallmark Christmas movies.
Was it a bad idea to play this game? Letting someone in, giving them the opportunity hurt her when life had kicked her in the stomach more times than she would care to count. It was scary, new territory for Rey. Then again her last relationship moved at a glacial speed, and fell apart so quickly.
Maybe, just maybe…what they have could have something that leads to a happy ending.
The hands at Buck’s waist start to hike up the fabric. Fingers brushing over his skin. The kiss turns hotter, needier. It’s only when Rey needs to breathe that she pulls back to look up at her paramore. ]
I’ve missed you too. [She repeated in soft tones. Her hands hiked his shirt up further, trying to remove the garment from his being. ]
I missed you so damn much.

He loves watching her try new things, the way she's grown to trust him to be behind her at each juncture. Even when they're out surrounded by crowds of people, it feels like it's just the two of them. Like his whole world narrows until it's just her and her smile.
He doesn't want to be too much, too soon. It's hard to not want to dive head first into everything with her. He's tried desperately to slow it down, to just enjoy whatever it is that they're doing in the moment. It's been a few months of that, and he knows he's not going to make it far into their weekend together without asking her to be his girlfriend.
It could make or break everything, but it's a chance he's willing to take.
The kiss deepens, Buck's tongue slipping past her parted lips to slowly caress and explore. They have time. He'd rather take the chance to show her just how much he's missed her than rush to the main attraction. Her fingers brush over his skin, a shiver slipping down his spine at the simple touch. He carefully steers her toward the direction of the bedroom. ]
Yeah. [ His voice is a little softer, a little more thready as he catches his breath from the kiss. ] I hope you know you're always worth the wait.
[ He pulls back just enough to help her get his shirt off over his head, letting it drop to the floor of the otherwise neat apartment. Whatever mess they make can be addressed later. He's far too focused on sliding his hands down her waist and over her hips, physically lifting her from the ground and guiding her legs around his waist. ]

She waited for years for her parents to come back to her. Years spent questioning if her parents were still alive, why they left her behind, only to eventually come to the conclusion that she wasn’t worth it.
To hear those words from Buck, it makes her eyes glisten and causes a tear or two to fall down her face. A heartfelt moment that made her want to confess how much those words meant to her, but would he look at her differently? See her as broken then decide, “nah, she has too much baggage to deal with.”
She has to push down the swirl of emotions inside of her, wanting to focus on him and how sweet he tastes. How his touch can make her heart skip and knees weak. She’s faintly aware that he’s guiding her to her room. There queen sized bed with grey sheets, big enough for the two of them. There’s a very minimalist feel to it, just like the rest of the place. It didn’t have many personal items to show who she was as a person…but that might change in the future. ]
You’re worth the wait too, Evan.
[Rey murmurs after he pulls back to take off his shirt. He has a physique most men would kill for and the clothes highlighted that too. Sure, that was the first thing most people would notice about him but for Rey it was his voice. A bit raspy but held such gentleness and excitement. A voice she’d yearn to hear in the morning and at night.
His hands over her hips prompts Rey to move her hands from his waist to behind his neck. Her legs wrap around his waist, trusting he wouldn’t drop her. He’s been to her room plenty of times to know where it was, and she had enough foresight to leave the door ajar.
Rey takes the moment to start another kiss—soft and caring, but not deep. No, no, she said she would spoil him and she is a woman of her word. Her lips travel from his, pressing one kiss to the corner of his mouth, trailing down to the side of his jaw, ending at the side of his neck. ]
Evan… [His name falls from her lips in soft tones as he picks her up to head into her room. ] There’s condoms in the side table. [As things were about to get hot and heated, she wanted to make sure he knew she was prepared. ]

That's what makes all this just as scary as it is thrilling. This could be another piece of his heart broken off and given away for ultimately nothing. Another name in the hat for who's going to break Buck's heart next. But he can't help how fast he's falling. How his heart skips and flutters and stops when he sees her, when she smiles at him, when she takes his hand and laces their fingers together.
They always feel like puzzle pieces sliding right into place. When they hold hands, when he rests his head in her lap while they watch trashy reality TV, when they're tangled up together between the sheets.
Maybe it's too soon -- he could teach a master class in moving too fast -- but he thinks he could want this, her, every day for the rest of his life.
Her lips are soft against his jaw, down the side of his neck, and he's glad he took the time to shave so it's not too scratchy for her. One arm loops securely around her waist as the other hand slides from her hip to her ass to support her that way as well. And because she has a nice ass. ]
I just love how prepared you always are. [ His voice is soft, and maybe just a little bit teasing as he moves into the bedroom, nudging the door open fully with his foot. He kneels on the bed, lowering her carefully onto her back. He hovers, one hand against the bed above her shoulder, the other moving gently to her chin to guide her mouth back to his.
It's a slow, soft kiss, sweet and exploratory, like he hasn't kissed her dozens of times before. When he pulls back, it's with a soft intake of breath, head spinning just a little in that pleasant, can't-get-enough way. He looks down at her, the hand on her chin trailing down the center of her chest. It reaches the bottom hem of her shirt and slips underneath it, fingers splaying over her stomach. ]
Can I have my dessert now?
[ He's never liked implied consent very much. Just because they talked about it before doesn't mean it's what she wants to do now, and he wants to be sure of what she wants. ]
no subject
That what she’s feeling is being reciprocated. There were no games. It wasn’t a dream. Something she’s wanted for so long—someone who understood her, and cared about her unconditionally—is truly there for her.
Rey lets out a soft chuckle, finding her back touching the bed first then the rest of her body. Her legs dangling off the edge of the bed, forcing her to scoot up a little more to give Buck room to climb into her bed. Her brown hair fanned out on the grey sheets. ]
I wanted to make sure we have what we need. [And not be caught off guard when the moment strikes.
Plus, he’d find flavored condoms in that drawer too. Rey did say she wanted to spoil Buck this weekend.
He initiated another kiss, drawing her to him like a moth to a flame. Rey doesn’t hold back, kissing him in a slow manner and letting her tongue move against his. It feels like she’s kissing him for the first time all over again—wanting, needing to explore all of him.
When he pulls back, it’s clear he has Rey wound up. There’s a flush on her face, from her cheeks down her neck and then over her chest. Her eyes watch Buck like a hawk, yearning to reach up to pull him back to her.
His touch is electrifying. His voice—a siren’s song that she cannot ignore. And fuck, he’s so sweet. He wants to make sure this was what she wants. ]
Yes, sweetheart. You can.
[And by that she thinks he means he can enter her. Hence why she mentioned the condoms early on.
Her hands move down to her shirt, grabbing the ends of it to tug up and over her head. It takes some maneuvering on her part, but her top was off—but her bra was still on. She wasn’t going to deny Buck the pleasure of getting that off. ]
Evan…[Her voice is breathy as she reaches out to him, trying to gently pull him back to her. She needs his lips on hers again. ]
no subject
His own face heats with a soft blush. Not just with the sweet way she gives him permission, but because of how good she looks laid out beneath him, now shirtless in just her bra and jeans. A look that he's particularly fond of, if he's being honest. ]
Rey... [ He murmurs her name against her lips just before he kisses her again. He can feel himself getting worked up, warmth and pleasure falling down his spine. He's more than happy to set it all aside to spoil Rey. And he knows she said she wanted to spoil him, too. They have time. Two full days of it, and that's not even accounting for whatever they get up to tonight.
They can stay up late, they can sleep in. Get lost in each other's touch and spoil each other in an endless cycle.
Once he's thoroughly kissed her breathless again, his mouth trails off to the side, kissing over her cheek and down the side of her neck. The hand on her stomach moves around to her back, sliding up her spine and encouraging her to arch so he can unhook her bra. He's done this too many times -- he unfastens it easily with one hand, pulling it off and tossing it to one side.
God, she's gorgeous. He shifts himself onto one elbow, bringing the other hand down her chest again. His hands are rough and calloused from his job, and he keeps his touch light as he cups one of her breasts, thumb slowly tracing around a hardened nipple. His lips find hers again for another soft kiss. ]

They could spoil each other during their weekend. They weren’t in a rush to go anywhere. Their time together was theirs to do with as they pleased. Although, they would have to figure out when they wanted to make food…but that was a later problem.
Right now, Rey wants to enjoy feeling Buck’s skin on hers. How the taste of him is sweet and warm, and how she could not get enough of his kisses. She never thought she’d lower her walls to allow someone to be this close to her. The scars she had, the faint ones on her skin and the ones on her heart were guarded.
Hey with Evan, it was easy to lower her defenses, one brick at a time. He didn’t pressure her into his bed, or made her feel like she had to fulfill his needs at every turn. He wanted her to feel good—and their first time together, she swore she saw stars.
In between kisses, he removes her bra and now they’re just in their pants. Those need to come off soon, but with his hand on her breast, she can’t do much. ]
Evan… [ Rey mews out his name again just before their lips are reunited for another kiss. Her hips rise up, pressing against his to show she wants him—-needs him. No doubt she was wet with arousal, and she was pretty sure he was getting hard. Damnit, why didn’t they shed more clothing earlier?
One hand caresses the side of his neck, while the other drapes itself over his shoulder. Her nails lightly raking over his skin. The kiss comes to an end with Rey pulling back to take in air. Her lungs are grateful for the oxygen. Her lips are bruised from his kisses but she doesn’t care. ].
Sweetheart, please. [ Rey murmurs with a faint plea to her voice. Her hips move against his, trying to show him what he’s done to her—a strong and independent woman in need of being intimate with her partner—feeling whole and loved. ]
no subject
He chuckles softly at her impatience against the side of her neck, letting his breath tickle over her skin before starting to kiss down. Over the curve of her breast, pausing for just a moment to tease his tongue against her pert nipple.
He could worship her body like this for hours. Tracing soft curves with his hands, memorizing each dip and crevice and scar with wandering fingers. Tasting every inch of her body with his tongue. And as ridiculously hot as it would be to work her up slowly until she's really squirming and pleading, he doesn't want to deny her what she wants.
Or what he wants, truthfully. It may be one of his very favorite places to be, right between her legs. When his mouth reaches the bottom of her ribs, he leans back and sits up, hands making quick work of the button and zipper of her jeans. He tugs them down and off, letting them drop to the floor and leaving her laid out in just her underwear. ]
You're beautiful, Rey. [ His voice is soft, a little hoarse from his own arousal. As he leans down, giving her one quick, heated kiss, he also scoots a little further back on the bed. His mouth retraces its previous descent, trailing down her chest, over her breast, but not stopping as he did before. His lips trail lower, past her ribs and along her stomach as he shifts lower on the bed. ]

That relationship was a mess. It didn’t bring her as much happiness as she thought it would. It certainly bring her to her knees in pleasure.
Fuck, Evan knows what he’s doing. What to do to elicit one sound after another until Rey has to bite down on her lower lip to keep herself from making more noise. Her neighbors didn’t need to hear what was taking place in her bedroom. ]
Evan… [Fuck, he was making her heart jump with each kiss he leaves on her skin. Her body was on fire—in need of his touch and kisses. He was a sex god, clearly. He had experience as he expertly peeled her jeans off her body. Just her panties had to go—
But he wasn’t taking those off. No, he gives Rey another kiss, sending her into bliss again only to pull back and move further down.]
Evan? [His name came out breathy, confused and trying to understand what was happening.
Until he was between her thighs and used his sinful tongue on a more sensitive area, making Rey moan. Her back arching from his touch. Her hands clenching the bedsheets in an attempt to stay still.
Dear lord, he was going to drive her nuts until she was hoarse. ]

They're not even dating and he's imagining a whole future with her. If he can have this every day for the rest of his life, he'll be the luckiest guy in the universe.
He settles between her legs, kissing each of her hips before carefully pushing her legs a little further apart. More kisses up the insides of her thighs, until he's reached her panties and his lips have run out of skin. He looks up at her for a brief moment to flash a grin. ]
Sweet dessert.
[ The first taste he gets is through the fabric of her soaked panties as he places a hot, open-mouthed kiss against her mound. He hums a pleased note, his fingers hooking into the waistband of her underwear to pull them off and away. Once there's no longer any barriers between him and his prize, he wastes no time settling his hands on her hips and dragging his tongue between her wet folds, from entrance to clit. ]

Buck was different. He was open and honest about his feelings. Nothing vague or half-assed. The bar was set in hell, and yet he did more than bare minimum. He exceeded that and more—and may have ruined Rey with sex.
The man knew what he was doing. While Rey had been with one other person, Buck was in a class all his own. It made Rey want to do more—searching the internet for ways to entice and excite him…and damn if her oral game was upped in the process. She wasn’t willing to explore other things with Buck, feeling comfortable and safe to do so.
He didn’t belittle her for being hesitant with exploring. Nor did he shame her for taking things slow. Not when the result was both of them tired and satisfied.
It didn’t take long for Rey to cry out his name as her first orgasm hit her, leaving her a mess. She thanked him for the release, drawing Buck up to her face to kiss his cheek. A few moments of rest until it was her turn to bring Buck the same pleasure he gifted her.
Minutes turned into an hour. Their bodies tangled in the sheets. Rey was sore, satisfied and utterly content. She was curled against Buck’s chest, breathing in his scent while staying close to him.
Dessert was great. Incredible. If she could stay like this forever, she would. ]
…have I told you how great you are? [She murmurs against his skin, tilting her head back to press a kiss to the underside of his jaw. ]
